Rooibos Ltd was one of the sponsors of the 20th Annual General Meeting of the Tea Exporters Association (TEA) in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on 6 September. This was the third year that Rooibos Ltd co-sponsored the AGM. The event, hosted at the Taj Samudra Hotel, was attended by over 400 guests, who included diplomats, senior government officials and tea trade members.
His Excellency Mr Akira Sugiyama, ambassador of the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, was the guest of honour at the event. Mr Rohan Karr, Managing Director of Hayleys Leisure Holdings, delivered the keynote address. At the AGM, recognition was given to outstanding tea producers with 22 producers receiving awards from the guest of honour.
The association also offered scholarships to 12 children from Medawachchiya near Anuradhapura, and said it would continue with the 20 scholarships awarded in 2018 to children from the tea plantation sector.
