Using Rooibos to boost your immune system this winter

South Africa is experiencing a cold and wet winter and, as a result, many people are looking for ways to boost their immunity. Of course, the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has also changed the way in which people view their health, with many looking for ways to stay as healthy as possible.

IOL recently published an article in which they set out some of the key reasons why people ought to turn to Rooibos to give their bodies the boost it needs to ensure good health. Rooibos increases the levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines (compounds that fight inflammation) and reduces the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines (compounds that promote inflammation).

Adele du Toit, spokesperson for the SA Rooibos Council (SARC), explained further about Rooibos as an immune booster: “It is packed with polyphenols, which are micronutrients with antioxidant activity. Polyphenols act as scavengers of free radicals throughout the body, which are detrimental by-products of cell metabolism that can cause inflammation.”
